DT Croatia – Dubrovnik Travel DMC offers an unforgettable incentive program featuring old-timer rides through the Dubrovnik region, showcasing coastal and rural landscapes. Driving the legendary Renault 4, celebrated for its durability, efficiency, and undeniable charm, is one of the most enjoyable ways to explore the beauty of the Dalmatian coast.

A Journey Back in Time Behind the Wheel of the Iconic Renault 4

The Renault 4, affectionately known as the “Quatre,” was a symbol of simplicity and practicality. This authentic French vehicle was highly versatile, perfectly suited to the lifestyle once prevalent in Konavle, near Dubrovnik. It was ideal for city drives but also invaluable for rural life, used to transport agricultural produce to markets or travel to local fields.

The idea of incorporating these cars into the tourist offerings of this fertile rural region originated in Konavle itself. When the first 18 refurbished cars, complete with open roofs and colourful paintwork, hit the roads in a convoy, they turned heads wherever they went. Today, a fleet of 28 Renault 4s is available, delighting guests who rent them for wine, culinary, or historical-cultural tours across the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.

Tailored Tours: Driving, Tastings, and Exploration

The Renault 4 tours last approximately three hours and include carefully curated routes and stops tailored to guests’ preferences. The program usually begins at the hotel where guests are staying. The vibrantly colourful cars are lined up in front of the hotel, and a short briefing is held before the activity starts. Guests' amazement continues when they learn that their Renaults lack air conditioning and instead rely on a “Mediterranean climate” and that mastering the “umbrella” gear stick is part of the fun.

Before setting off in these decades-old cars, participants are thoroughly instructed on how to operate them. Ensuring the safety of participants and maintaining the vehicles in perfect condition is a top priority.

The adventure begins with a convoy heading toward Konavle. Along the way, guests enjoy stunning views of Dubrovnik while soaking in the natural beauty of the coastline. Upon reaching Konavle, the itinerary typically includes visits to local family farms (OPGs), where guests can sample olive oil, honey, homemade liqueurs, elderflower juice, dried figs, and other local delicacies. Stops often include a tour of an olive oil mill and a flour mill, complete with demonstrations of traditional production methods.

A visit to the famous Sokol Tower is also a highlight, where the cars are arranged in a line for group photos against a backdrop of tall Konavle cypress trees. The tour concludes with a well-deserved lunch, often hosted in a traditional Konavle house or a nearby restaurant, before heading back to the hotel.

Flexibility and Personalization

The tour can be fully customized to meet clients’ preferences. For example, a route can be organized to Ston, featuring oyster tastings, a walk along the Ston Walls, and a visit to the salt works with a demonstration of traditional salt production.

Driving a Renault 4 is more than just a trip—it’s a nostalgic journey that blends adventure with old-world charm. This activity is perfect for groups, with a recommended capacity of up to three people per vehicle. DT Croatia – Dubrovnik Travel DMC ensures complete organization and support throughout the tour, delivering an experience that leaves lasting memories.
