The drama programme of the 77th Dubrovnik Summer Festival is exceptionally rich and diverse, and will also bring back some of the audience's favourite revival productions. This summer, the iconic Goldoni comedy The Squabbles of the Fishermen will once again be performed — a co-production of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Marin Držić Theatre and the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, translated and adapted into the Dubrovnik dialect by Morana Čale, and staged by director Krešimir Dolenčić in the park of the Art School.

In the past, the iconic Le Baruffe Chiozzotte played at various ambient locations. Although the plot is set in a precise historical context, the focus is on the everyday lives and love relationships of fishermen and their wives, filled with jealousy, gossip and arguments. Goldoni faithfully depicts the mentality and passions of ordinary people through witty dialogues and temperamental arguments.

Fisherman's stew made of Le baruffe chiozzotte. And what are the ingredients? Mediterranean temperament and grandezza, necessary and unnecessary pride and honesty, warm love and hot jealousy, a mountain made out of a molehill, ordinary people, noble thoughts and lots of idle talk, Italian melodiousness and French gestures wrapped in Dubrovnik speech, female whims and male moments, and our people (because that's what we all are in a way, those of us located on the shoreline of the Mediterranean Sea), Dubrovnik locals and the likes of them, all the way to Split. And all this is served with polenta as a side dish. On top of that, for all of you and us, we wish joy, people of good will, peace and blessings, laughter and love. What more could you want for an evening of good time in Dubrovnik! Enjoy the comedy!
