Dubrovnik Airport changed its name to Ruder Boskovic Airport at the beginning of November. This is a significant change for the airport, which now bears the name of a well-known and highly important Croatian scientist, a special tribute from Dubrovnik. The goal of this change is to emphasize Dubrovnik's significant role in the development of science and innovation, showcased by the city's numerous projects in both science and tourism. The airport believes that this change will contribute to further promoting Dubrovnik Airport and the city worldwide.

Josip Ruder Boskovic, a respected Croatian scientist from the 18th century, engaged in mathematics, astronomy, physics, philosophy, and geodesy. Born in Dubrovnik in 1711, he passed away in Milan in 1787. Recognized for numerous discoveries and theories in these scientific fields, an institute for scientific research in atomic physics in Zagreb was founded in 1950, named after him. Additionally, an astronomical society in Belgrade and a crater on the Moon are named in his honor.

The decision to change the name was made by the Dubrovnik Airport Assembly on June 26, 2023. The implementation process, according to aviation regulations, began, and a new proposal for visual identity will be fully implemented in the coming months, completed by the start of the next summer season.

Dubrovnik is connected to international destinations by air traffic even during the winter

Although the busiest period at Dubrovnik Airport is during the summer tourist season, this year, even during winter, Dubrovnik is connected by air traffic to international destinations such as Frankfurt, London, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Helsinki, Brussels, Stockholm, and others.

The national carrier, Croatia Airlines, in the winter traffic period 2023/2024, from October 29, 2023, to March 30, 2024, has renewed and resumed operations on the international route Dubrovnik-Frankfurt. Flights are operated three times a week (on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays) with an Airbus 319 aircraft, with a capacity of 144 seats. There will be an exception with a break from the second half of January to the end of February, and regular traffic resumes from the beginning of March. Considering that the Dubrovnik-Frankfurt route regularly operated during the winter months until the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, its re-establishment is of exceptional importance, both for Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. In addition to this international route to Frankfurt, Croatia Airlines also operates regular flights on the domestic route to Zagreb.

In addition to the international route of Croatia Airlines, during November and March, Turkish Airlines operates flights from Dubrovnik to Istanbul, and easyJet flies to London.

There are also charter flights by the airline Freebird Airlines Europe that started in October and will continue the first part until the beginning of December 2023. Flights will operate twice daily, every day until the beginning of December. The charter program will have a break from mid-December to mid-February. These mentioned flights were established through the collaborative efforts of the airport, the carrier, and with significant support from the Dubrovnik Tourist Board and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Tourist Board.
