Midsummer Scene – June 21st to July 7th

With its choice of a woman for the lead role in one of Shakespeare’s most performed plays, Hamlet, this year's edition of the Midsummer Scene Festival examines this great play in a different and new way.

This year the Midsummer Scene Festival and Hamlet will run from June 21st to July 7th at Fort Lawrence. The main role has been entrusted to the great British actress Helen Millar, who the audience had a chance to meet during the last edition of the festival.

We should point out that Fort Lawrence that has hosted numerous performances of Hamlet, the creations of giants of both the Croatian and foreign theatre scene – from Rade Serbedžija to Daniel Day Lewis, and we trust that this new dramatic interpretation that places a woman as the central character will illicit the attention of the audience.

This year the successful cooperation with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra will continue with a concert under the stars at Fort Lawrence on June 28th as part of the festival. A new feature is the collaboration with the museum Marin Držić House and a special event will be an exhibition of photographs by the British artist Bari Goddard called Midsummer Scene / Night Dubrovnik.

Midsummer Scene, an event with a decidedly international character, is entering its third season, marked by an expansion of the program and performance space. Until the end of 2016, last year’s play Twelfth Night will embark on an international tour, and after Dubrovnik, Hamlet will be performed in London.

Midsummer Scene Festival is a City of Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik Tourist Board project, produced and organised by Brilliant Events Dubrovnik and Honey -Tongued Theatre Productions London.
