The dramatic program of the 77th Dubrovnik Summer Festival is exceptionally rich and varied. In addition to exciting guest appearances and favorite reruns, it will offer festival audiences a continued exploration and development of dynamic co-production and ambient concepts, as well as major premieres. The third premiere, The Lady from the Sea by Henrik Ibsen, presents a subtle and emotionally charged story of inner conflict, longing for freedom, and the right to make one’s own choices. Directed by Ivan Plazibat, a recipient of numerous awards for his productions, the play explores themes of love, marriage, and the past, opening up a space for reflection on personal responsibility and the courage to change one’s own life. The roles will be performed by the Festival Drama Ensemble in the distinctive, site-specific setting of the island of Lokrum, whose surroundings powerfully enhance the play’s central themes and the sense of the human bond with the sea and with fate.
