Meetings Star Award
Meetings Star Award

For more than a decade, Dubrovnik has been the best meetings destination in the region for up to 1,200 participants

Dubrovnik won the Meetings Star Award again this year as the best meetings destination in the M category - for up to 1,200 participants, in Central and South-eastern Europe. These awards have been given for the last 12 years in the organization of the specialized magazine Kongres Magazine and the regional trade show Conventa.

The Meetings Star Award is awarded based on the results of extensive research and evaluation of meetings destinations by so-called, “secret guests,” with the help of a specially designed system called "Meeting experience index" or simply MTLG - Meetologue. The evaluation is therefore not based only on the number of MICE events held in the destination, but on a comprehensive analysis that includes as many as 75 evaluation criteria. From the very beginning of the evaluation of destinations, a reference system has been used in order to present the most realistic offer of meetings destinations over time, and so far a total of 118 destinations in the region of Central and South-eastern Europe have been evaluated.

The best meetings destinations in 2021 were selected in four basic categories, depending on the meetings infrastructure and the number of participants they can accommodate. The best meetings destinations that can host more than 2,000 participants are ranked as XL, L those that can host up to 2,000 participants, M up to 1,200 participants and S up to 600 participants.

The flagship of regional tourism and the best meetings destination for medium-sized events

From the very beginning, Dubrovnik has been the brightest star of the MICE offer in Central and South-eastern Europe in the M category. This category includes a total of 26 destinations in the region. Among the criteria that influence the evaluation of the destination are natural and cultural factors, general transport infrastructure, tourist and conference infrastructure, rank on the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) ranking of world meetings destinations, marketing activity of the destination, Numbeo quality of life index, Numbeo safety index, ACI index of connections with international airports, evaluation of the Nomad List platform, but also subjective evaluation of the secret guest.

Dubrovnik for 2021/2022 with an overall rating of 4.41, again won first place in the M category, and is described as: "the flagship of regional tourism and usually the first on the list of meetings destinations that event organizers have in mind. Dubrovnik is in the region of Central and South-eastern Europe, most similar to the renowned Mediterranean meetings destinations Cannes and Monte Carlo. Modern and well-equipped centres in hotels such as Dubrovnik Palace, Excelsior, Bellevue, Grand Villa Argentina, Royal Hotels & Resort, Dubrovnik President, Valamar Lacroma and Dubrovnik Sun Gardens are excellent for holding various types of events. The entire meetings infrastructure is well developed, including the offer of DMC and PCO agencies. The city is safe and is one of the tourist icons of the Adriatic and justifiably the most photographed tourist pearl with a rich and varied offer of unique experiences for MICE guests."

Continuous work on the development of the meetings and incentive offer in Dubrovnik is also reflected in the evaluations of the destination during the last five years. Namely, Dubrovnik as a meetings destination went from 4.17 in 2017 to 4.41 in 2021.

Dubrovnik among the 10 best destinations in New Europe

In addition to the Meetings Star Award, the organizers of this research compile a list of the best destinations of the so-called New Europe for each past year according to their MTLG methodology. The countries of Central and Southeast Europe are called New Europe. With its overall rating, Dubrovnik won seventh place on this list as well, thus gaining another award for excellence.
