Dubrovnik's Cultural Delight: A Spring Filled with Classical Music!
Dubrovnik is certainly renowned for its exceptional cultural offerings. Numerous events take place in the city throughout the year, with most of them occurring during the summer season when the city is bustling with visitors from all over the world. However, to ensure that the beautiful and warm spring days are not left unfulfilled, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra (DSO) has taken the initiative to meet the need for quality music programs by launching an event called Dubrovnik Musical Spring. Since 2017, during the months of April, May, and this year even June, carefully selected music programs have been held at several attractive locations in Dubrovnik, intended for both the locals and visitors, highlighting the importance of music and its tradition in Dubrovnik.
Therefore, if you are planning a gathering, conference, or congress in Dubrovnik during this period, make sure to include this cultural event in your social program or incentive. The spring concert season of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and the program of Dubrovnik Musical Spring began on April 20th and offer numerous concerts for two full months, featuring soloists from Dubrovnik, Croatia, and abroad.
Concerts dedicated to the works of Ludwig van Beethoven
An interesting music and cultural program opened with a performance by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra under the baton of its conductor Ivan Hut, featuring one of the most prominent representatives of the younger generation of Croatian clarinetists, Bruno Philipp. The program continued with a recital by violinist Loris Grubišić and pianist Jadranka Garin. In addition to Maestro Hut, the previous concerts of the music spring were conducted by Valentin Egel, one of the most talented European conductors, while solo performances were given by hornist Toni Kursar, bassoonist Matija Novaković, the String Quartet of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, and the award-winning soprano Marija Kuhar Šoša.
The DSO has dedicated special attention to Ludwig van Beethoven in this spring concert season. A whole cycle dedicated to this musical genius will take place. The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and pianist Đuro Tikvica, under the baton of conductors Uroš Lajovic and Ivan Hut, will perform a series of three concerts featuring Beethoven's piano concertos on May 19th, 23rd, and 25th.
An evening dedicated to tango took place on May 20th when cellist Vid Veljak performed with the Brass & Percussion Ensemble of the DSO. The arrangements for this captivating musical evening were prepared by Damir Butigan, and the entire event was called "Tango the Night."
A diverse program in June offers something for everyone
The beginning of June will be marked by the music of Dubravko Detoni and Georges Bizet. On June 1st, the orchestra will perform Detoni's Transformations, Forgotten Music, Music à cinque for strings, and Quintet for Piano and String Quartet, with pianist Danijel Detoni joining the DSO members. Maestro Ivan Hut will conduct the concert.
On June 6th, lovers of Spanish music will have the opportunity to enjoy the works of E. Granados, I. Albéniz, and J. Malats performed by the young guitar virtuoso Zlatko Josip Grgić, nicknamed "The Torres Whisperer" by the Spaniards.
Audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the performance of the concert star of the DSO, Đana Kahriman, alongside the orchestra and maestro Pavle Zajcev. As part of the Dalmatian cycle, the renowned Split Virtuosos and pianist Vesna Podrug will be featured, presenting an intriguing program titled "From Baroque to Rumba" performed by Zoltan Hornyanszki and István Römer.
