E1 World Championship in Dubrovnik
The E1 Series, officially known as the UIM E1 World Championship, is the world's first and only electric powerboat racing series.
Co-founded by Alejandro Agag and Rodi Basso, the E1 Series combines high-performance sport with a deep commitment to ocean health, technological innovation, and sustainable coastal development. Built around the all-electric RaceBird boats, the series champions a new vision of marine mobility - one that is clean, fast, and aligned with global climate goals. As the races travel from city to city, E1 brings with it not only thrilling competition but a platform for education, community engagement, and environmental impact.
The E1 Dubrovnik GP, taking place on June 13-14, 2025, will showcase this vision in one of the Mediterranean's most iconic coastal cities. The weekend begins on Friday morning with the Run Blue - Dubrovnik Edition, a 5km awareness run organized by Westbrook Racing to spotlight the global water crisis and inspire action for climate, biodiversity, and freshwater protection. Simultaneously, a sea cleanup initiative will take place at Banje Beach, led by the Croatia Powerboating Club and Innovamare. Divers and volunteers will collect marine litter, which will later be transformed into jewelry and artworks by local children, a meaningful act of circular creativity and education.
The morning continues with the Blue Natural Capital Summit, hosted at Lazareti under the patronage of the Croatian Ministry of Tourism and Sport and the Croatian Chamber of Economy. The summit opens with remarks from high-level officials (pending confirmation), including Croatia's Prime Minister, the Mayor of Dubrovnik, and EU Vice-President Teresa Ribera via video. Keynote speakers include Prof. Carlos Duarte, Rodi Basso, Didier Drogba, and Prof. Sandra Damijan, covering themes such as ocean finance, sport for nature, and the strategic role of Blue Natural Capital in Croatia's economy. A high-impact panel discussion will follow, featuring global leaders from finance, innovation, and conservation, including representatives from the IMF, EIB, IUCN, and Innovamare, exploring how Croatia can turn marine resources into national advantage.
Running throughout the day is the E1 Acceleration Festival, a vibrant hub for blue innovation, education, and public engagement. The festival features an expo on marine technologies, blue finance, and sustainable tourism, alongside VR simulators, university showcases, a fan zone, and a food court. A highlight of the festival is the E1 Blue Hackathon, where students and young entrepreneurs present solutions for sustainability. At the E1 Blue Impact Championship booth, guests can explore the sustainability initiatives of E1 teams through videos, interactive displays, and behind-the-scenes storytelling. Meanwhile, schoolchildren participate in Kid STEMing workshops, using materials from the morning cleanup to design ocean-inspired innovations and raise awareness about marine conservation.
In the early afternoon, a Youth & Media Engagement session brings children, artists, and summit guests together to celebrate creative outputs from the cleanup - jewelry and artworks - followed by a photo session and interviews with E1 racers and local youth. The group then walks to the RaceBird docking area, where the first official E1 races take place from 14:00 to 18:30, offering an exciting glimpse into the future of clean-tech marine sport. That evening, the Croatia Powerboating Club will host an invite-only High-Level Gala Dinner at Revelin Fortress, featuring the formal launch of the Dubrovnik Manifesto on Blue Economy, a cultural program, and an Adriatic culinary experience.
On Saturday, June 14, the E1 Acceleration Festival continues with all of its educational and experiential activities. At the Ocean Club on Banje Beach, the E1 Blue Leadership Program will feature two dynamic panels. The first highlights E1 teams' real-world impact projects in communities and conservation; the second brings together scientists and changemakers to promote a regenerative approach to ocean stewardship. The weekend concludes with the grand finale races of the E1 Dubrovnik GP, followed by a podium celebration that places global attention on Croatia's leadership in marine innovation, sustainability, and sport.
