Dubrovnik - a city for all seasons

Dubrovnik, one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean, attracts numerous tourists and business guests from early spring to autumn. With its unique history and timeless beauty, the cleanliness of the sea, numerous cultural, private and business events, it is an unavoidable destination for modern travellers. However, in recent years, it has become a city that you can equally enjoy all year round, especially if you are a fan of a quieter vacation.

Dubrovnik is primarily an air destination, from March to October it is well connected to all major European cities, and with the recent opening of the imposing Pelješac Bridge, it is connected to the rest of Croatia by road. Along with the world-famous medieval city walls and numerous other historical attractions, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and other cultural events that take place on the most beautiful outdoor stages in the summer are one of the main reasons to visit the city, along with the unavoidable summer activities at sea and on the islands.

Numerous domestic and international congress and incentive events are organized in spring and autumn in Dubrovnik hotels, as well as in historical and special venues. Creative, unique incentive experiences lead business groups, from the popular "Game of Thrones" program and other thematic programs in the historical centre of the city, to sports and gastronomic tours in the hilly surroundings of the city and the Neretva valley, or sea adventures on the Elaphite islands all the way to Pelješac, Korčula or Mljet.

Dubrovnik certainly has something to offer even in this quieter part of the year, when it is well connected by air lines to certain European airports, and via the Croatian capital Zagreb and other destinations. The mild Mediterranean climate means that temperatures do not below zero, which is a great opportunity for a pleasant, slow exploration of the city and its surroundings. What can you do in Dubrovnik from October to March?

• A tour of the monumental walls and the old city centre, organized by yourself or even better, with the guidance and interesting stories of one of the many tourist guides, is the starting point for getting to know the city in every season. Dubrovnik is a living museum under the protection of UNESCO, and its monuments, fortresses, numerous Baroque, Renaissance and Romanesque churches and palaces proudly speak of the thousand-year history of the city and especially the time of the famous Republic of Dubrovnik. Walk along the most beautiful city street, Stradun, visit the Rector's Palace, the Church of St. Blaise, Sponza Palace, Orlando's column... have a coffee in one of the stone alleys, buy a local souvenir in one of the shops with the Authentically Croatian label - old Dubrovnik jewellery in jewellery stores, as well as sweet sugar-coated orange peel, quince jelly or fine local liqueurs, brandies and top wines.

• The most beautiful panoramic view of the city is provided by the cable car that goes to the top of Srđ hill. The view of the city, the coast and the islands and the unforgettable sunset leaves you breathless!

• The Good Food Festival in October is the most famous gastro event that presents the latest culinary specialties of the Dubrovnik region, along with tasting of the best regional wines, various educational programs and workshops, gastro tours, socializing with famous chefs...

• Did you know that Dubrovnik has its own symphony orchestra for almost a century? For all lovers of classical, traditional and jazz music in the beautiful surroundings of the Rector's Palace and Dubrovnik churches, the orchestra organizes the Autumn Music Festival with a series of concert events in the autumn months.

• September and October also bring an internationally recognized sports competition that brings together runners from all over the world Dubrovnik Triathlon – Earth, Sea and Fire.

• December and January invite you to holiday events gathered under the Dubrovnik Winter Festival, as well as the popular Advent. Experience the city's attractions illuminated by Christmas lights, treat yourself to mulled wine and snacks, visit the stands at the Christmas Fair and sing a traditional Dubrovnik carol. The highlight of the holiday events is certainly New Year's Eve on Stradun with a rich entertainment program, which continues with a festive concert by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra with oysters and sparkling wine on the first day of the New Year.

• The Day of St. Blaise is the most famous city festival that celebrates the patron saint of the city on February 3rd. Blaise, and the city has been celebrating for more than a thousand years in the same way - with a magnificent procession through the streets of the old city centre and a series of festive events, concerts, theatre performances and exhibitions. You will find statues of this Catholic saint at all city entrances and walls, and the Day of St. Blaise is included in the list of UNESCO's intangible heritage.

• The Dubrovnik Karnevo or carnival in February brings a cheerful costumed party to Stradun and Dubrovnik's squares, as well as special events in cultural institutions, with a traditional selection of the best masks.

• Days of Mali Ston oysters in March are the best opportunity to taste the world-famous fresh oyster shells and the best quality Pelješac wines. You will be equally delighted by the walls of Ston - the longest defensive walls in the world outside of the Great Wall of China, as well as a visit to the oldest salt pan in Europe.
