Aljoša Rebolj: SCULPTURED TIME

TOMAŽ PANDUR’S THEATRE OPUS IN CROATIA

Opened daily from 6 to 10 pm

Tomaž Pandur was one of the most relevant contemporary theatre directors who enduringly contributed to the Croatian theatre through his work and his cooperation with the Croatian National Theatre and Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The audience still remembers his distinguishable esthetics and his particular language, while the artists who had the opportunity to work with him remember his visionary spirit and the unique process of structuring a theatre narrative and pictures into memorable, rounded and always new entireties.

In July 2010 in Madrid, Tomaž Pandur wrote the following about the photographs by Aljoša Rebolj, some of which you have the opportunity to see in this exhibition:

What illuminates our dreams, which take place in total darkness, shut behind our eyes? The memory of light that is no more, or the light of the future, which we borrow like an advance against tomorrow’s day, which has yet to dawn?

You see moments that would be lost in time like tears in the rain if you hadn’t caught them at the right, sacred moment and sculpted them into pictures—archetypal, primordial images that dwell in my theater. Images we have never seen before. Hexagrams of the moment. Of insights into the centre of time. The entity of time in theatre space becomes: timespacetheater, the timespace of an extracted matrix, a pure act that reveals in the affects of emotive states the stillness in motion and in stillness, incessant motion. The body outlines the profile of time. We are not the only ones who gaze into the eye of this relentless past and future. The time of memory. Images of thought in motion, transportable into eternity.

Reversibility, an instant switch, a flash. The world as representation. A diagnosis of the moment. The scanning of sight. The waiting room of memory. The poetry of departure. The art of travel. Metamorphoses. Metempsychoses. Mutations.

Your photographs, your “sculptures of time” before us are images from the cosmic matrix, memories of a possible future, landscapes of active thoughts travelling with incredible speed through the air—mute air, composed of images. You photograph the world you know, you photograph the world you create. Your time and your memory flow, one into the other. Into photographs of reality that become Theatre.
