Jugendmusik Pratteln

The Jugendmusik Pratteln JMP (Youth Orchestra from the town Pratteln in Switzerland) is a wind orchestra with around 45 members from age 9 to 22. Initially it was started by its mother organisation «Musikgesellschaft Pratteln» (adult music society) in 1924. First, only boys were allowed to play. But reorganised in 1949 (and official year of foundation) there are girls and boys playing whatever instrument they like to play.

The JMP is organised as an association with a board. But the main work are the young members doing themselves! Such as organising the yearly concert (script, sketches, decoration, etc.) or searching and selecting all the music pieces in collaboration with the conductor. The literature encompasses Jazz, Rock, POP to symphonic wind works from different periods.

The JMP is an established and well-known orchestra in the region, they of course also play at official events. Also, they take part in competitions, regional and national contests. And, the orchestra travels abroad, such as now, when they are on a cruise trip on the Eastern Mediterranean Sea playing concerts on the cruise ship and in different cities.

The name of the conductor of the youth Orchestra Pratteln is Victor Behounek.
